[ Smoking is what all the cool kids do nowadays, right? At least, that's what any teenager who's entire exposure to the idea of cool has been through gritty media would be lead to believe. It's iconic of laid back, casual heroes; the ones who always have a sharp remark to accompany their action.

Perhaps it's not surprising that a vulnerable teenager would pick up on that. It's certainly not surprising that a bratty delinquent would the second they could acquire a pack. Meeting all of those expectations, Kyoko stands off to the side in an alley by the apartment she shares with Czes (it was one of the few places she didn't expect to be caught by him or Law. Of the two, she's not sure which would be worse.) It takes a few tries for her to flick the lighter on and a few more to gather up the courage to actually bring it to her lips.

Of course, being a sheltered child who's only exposure has been to second hand smoke, this naturally doesn't end well. There's a series of sputters and coughs as she gags on the resulting smoke. She scrubs her face with the back of her sleeve to wipe off the tears that immediately sprung to her eyes.

Ugh... Not what she expected. Not cool at all. ]

Look, if you're going to smoke you better be able to do it right. It's a gross habit to begin with and watching you stand there choking and gagging is just pathetic. Where did you even get those anyway?

[When did he get here? How long has he been here? Why does this always seem to happen to you, Kyoko? It is a mystery, but he's been here long enough to see her look like an idiot, so there's that.]

Kyoko jumps, looking comparable to a dog who'd been caught digging through the trash and only further proving his point by fumbling with and dropping the cigarette, before immediately deflating as he shoots down her efforts. Her shoulders droop. There's an unhappy little grumble in response, ]

That's kind of harsh, y'know...

He gives an over exaggerated roll of his eyes, not bothering to respond to her actual complaint.]

Were you trying to be cool or something? You know that stopped being cool in like the 90's, right?
